I caught this show one night and I have to admit that it’s a clever idea.. and a whole lot better than most reality shows out there. Randy Jackson went searching for America’s best dance crews and they compete against each other. The show is hosted by Mario Lopez.

The judges are:

Mr. Shane Sparks (choreographer and my next baby daddy)

Lil papa.. I mean Lil Mama

| Dance – Clown Walkin’ |
7 Dec |
Although often confused with one another, Crip Walking differs from Clown Walking. The confusion between the two is compunded by both styles starting with the letter “C”, hence they are both referred to as C-Walking.
Clown Walking, as opposed to Crip Walking, is a form of dance that “evolved” from the Crip Walk. It is usually faster than Crip Walking (although not always the case). It takes the foundational moves of the Crip Walk, such as the shuffle and V’s and expanding them to become flashier and more entertaining. This form of dance has no gang relations and is meant to be done for fun, rather than gang rituals. It is basically freestyle footwork, but has had some moves taken from Crip walking. Some of these moves would include the basic V and shuffle, but they’ve evolved into Clown Walking moves through variations walkers make.
What truly separates Clown Walking from Crip Walking is that while Clowning, you don’t flash gang signs and other gang-related gestures or spell anything to represent a gang with your feet. In the end, the Clown Walk is simply a dance that has been adopted into hip hop culture.
Clown Walk moves consist of basic V, Shuffle, and heeltoe. Dancers who utilize this particular form of dance often customize their own moves to make it unique.
| Dance – Dutty Wine |
6 Dec |
It involves moving your legs like a butterfly, whilst simultaneously rotating your neck and posterior. Sometimes more advanced dancers will also include the splits in their Dutty Wine. The Dutty Wine experienced a surge of popularity around the world, especially in Jamaican communities in parts of the United Kingdom and North America. Some even labelled it as “the dance craze” of 2006.
The Dutty Wine is generally performed to Dancehall style music.
Warning: Some doctors have warned against performing the Dutty Wine, claiming it may cause serious muscle trauma, and ligament damage. The right way to do the “Dutty Wine”

| Dance – Belly Roll |
6 Dec |
The benefits of belly dance are both mental and physical. Dancing provides a good cardio-vascular workout and helps increase both flexibility and strength, focusing on the torso or “core muscles”, although it also builds leg strength. Many belly dance styles emphasize muscular “isolations”, teaching the ability to move various muscles or muscle groups independently. Veil work can also build arm, shoulder, and general upper-body strength, and playing the zils can build strength and independence of the fingers. Belly dance is suitable for all ages and body types, and can be as physical as the participant chooses. As with starting any new exercise routine, people would be wise to consult their doctor before starting a belly dance regimen. It’s also important to talk with the belly dance instructor to find out the level of difficulty in the classes. The practice offers mental health benefits including an improved sense of well-being, better body image and self-esteem, and the generally positive outlook that comes with regular, enjoyable exercise.

| Dance – Crip Walkin |

The Crip Walk, or C-Walk, is a steady movement of the feet used to spell out gang-related symbols and images. It originated in the early 1970s in the West End, a poor suburb of Oneonta, New York, popularly referenced in rap lyrics. What began as a symbolic movement of the feet in the early 1980s in NYC, New York, soon inspired a hip-hop dance in the late 1990s.
Instructions: First start out with your feet parrallel and shoulder with apart.
Next all your going to do is jump up lightly. Your feet should only leave the ground by about 2 or 3 inches. Now when you jump stick your right foot out about only 6 inches, NO MORE, (sticking your feet out too far doesn’t allow you to bend your knees as much making you seem stiff, these should be short movements, not long and drawn out). You should land with only the heel of your right foot touching the ground and the ball of your left foot touching the ground. Then jumb again and bring your right foot back to its original position. Now do the same for the other foot.
Now to make your c-walk look even better, this time when you jump up and stick out your right foot bring your left foot with it in the same direction about 3 or 4 inches. Repeat on the other side. Also when you jump back to your original position be sure to bend your knees a little bit. (As you become more comfortable you can alter my directions as long as it still looks good.)
Raise your arms up to shoulder height and put them in a light football blocking position. When in the position move your fist so that they are in directly in front of your shoulders about six inches. Drop your elbows so they are at a 45 degree angle and unclench your fist. Now let your arms move with you freely as you dance, don’t lock them in this position, they should be bouncing around.
