Although I despise the color red, for some reason I’m drawn to it as an accent color for my garden. I was shopping around at the plant nursery and found “Sum and Substance” hosta, which is one of the largest hostas and only paid $6 for a quart sized plant.

I came up with the idea that I wanted a huge terra cotta pot painted red to really contrast the color of the hosta and show it off. First I had to shop around for the best deal on pots and ended up at Garden Ridge. Everything there was 25% off so I got a 24″ pot for $20. Next, I went to Ace Hardware and got a gallon of exterior high gloss paint. I bought a gallon because I expect to do tons of pots in this color, but a quart should be enough to complete 1 pot.
With 2 coats of paint, I ended up with this….

Pots like this usually retail for over $100.

| Fellating a Microphone |
22 Nov |
The age old question of “what a microphone would sound like if it were fellated by a woman” has now been answered by this lovely lady (Wojciech Kosma?), as she performs at an art opening. She’s been taking her act all around the world, as evidenced by her previous videos doing exactly the same thing.

| Style – Titanic Lamp |
25 Sep |

The Titanic Lamp elegantly upsets one’s expectations. A diagonal slice through the length of the lamp creates the appearance of floating semi-submerged in water. Combined with a high-gloss white lacquer finish and matching shade, the lamp is dressed in the stark attitude of a museum piece, frozen in time.

I came across a talented artist who actually designs colorful pieces of art out of paper. I just love the visual interest and texture of all of her pieces. Jen Stark does animations and drawings as well as sculptures.

Franc Grom
Egg Art Master Franc Grom sells egg artwork by creating approximately 2,500 to 3,500 holes in each egg shell. His intricate art is inspired by traditional Slovenian designs. Drilling holes in egg shells would require an incredible amount of steady hand and patience and the effort has definite paid off with these beautiful creations.

| Nathan Sawaya, the LEGO artist |
31 Jan |

Nathan Sawaya’s workspace is an explosion of color.
Clear plastic crates stuffed with LEGO bricks in every hue are stacked high against the walls. A computer sits on the floor, but it’s not functional. The red, yellow and blue replica is made entirely of LEGO.
In fact, everything in the room is made of LEGO; a cash register, a monkey, a bowl of fruit, a vase of flowers.
Here in Sawaya’s Manhattan studio, the 33-year-old artist snaps bricks together to create sculptures, big and small. His medium may be a beloved kid’s toy, but some of his signature pieces are incredibly grown-up.
